how to best grow orchids?

Who else immediately killed their grocery store orchid? A finicky but lasting friend if done right!

Orchids are relatively easy to kill indoors. An extremely resilient plant in nature under the right conditions, but a finicky friend for sure. Orchids cannot be pampered and do best when left alone - overwatering is the main proponent of this flowers death.

Orchids need to dry out between watering and with proper care can remain in bloom for months at a time and live much longer than any other houseplant (similarly to some beloved succulents if you are used to that kind of care!).

“Orchids are either epiphytic (air-growing) or terrestrial (earth-growing); most tropical orchids are epiphytic. In the wild, epiphytes cling to trees and stumps, drawing moisture from the mist and rain and decomposing leaves.”
