Did you know that 7-Eleven was originally called "Tote'm"? In 1927, the convenience store chain got its start in Dallas, Texas. The name "Tote'm" was inspired by the store's feature of customers "toting" away their purchases. Later, in 1946, the name was changed to 7-Eleven to reflect the store's new extended hours of operation, from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. This was quite a novelty at the time, as most stores closed much earlier.
